so she picked it up and started leafing through it.

She had decided to skip the sports section, but then a small teaser headline caught her attention.

She flipped open the sports section.

It was short and sweet, she saw, not even a full article, just a short paragraph on the Sports Briefs page. There was even a photo of her ex — with the same girl Dayana had caught him with on that day seven months ago. Dayana knew she would never forget that woman’s face — even if she didn’t know her name.

“Edward Newton just can’t seem to escape his run of bad luck,” she read silently, “which began with his divorce from his former wife, Dayana Boucher. Now it seems that his new fiancee, Renee Watkins, a cheerleader with the same team, has given back the engagement ring he gave her.

“Sources for the team are staying tight-lipped,”

the story continued. “But the captain of the team cheerleading squad says Miss Watkins remains terribly distraught and is seeking to transfer with another cheerleading team that the corporation owns.”

Dayana Boucher dropped the newspaper on the wooden coffee table with a loud slap. Now she finally knew the name of the girl that was between his legs that day. She couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for the girl.

Then a female voice said, “Miss Boucher?”
